THE CAMINHA + CROSS ENIGMA

What Do People Think?

A range of opinions have been expressed by people seeing the picture and hearing the story or viewing this site. Factors to bear in mind are that different people have seen different resolution images and some only look at the picture and are are not interested in the story. I would classify observer groups as follows:

Dismissive
These people see the image as a pretty poor optical illusion of some sort. The group includes proclaimed sceptics, some religious scientists and some casual observers. Some point out that there are far better images of eg floating angels, to be found elsewhere on the internet.

Open Minded
This group of observers either understand how such an image could form naturally or are otherwise at ease with it but do not exclude mystical cause. Members include scientists, weather experts, some friends and family.

Hand of God
Some observers have seen figures such as Jesus, the Virgin Mary, Angels and other religious icons in the Caminha Cross. The group includes some members of the family, friends, some web site observers and those viewing the images in Portugal close to the time of the event. Some see the hand of God by default because of their beliefs.

Uncommitted
A small group of people do not express an opinion either way but rather enquire, 'what is it?'

Fail to Respond
Although I have had no difficulty in obtaining unofficial opinions from representatives of the church, the high ranking church officials to whom this incident has been referred remain entirely silent.

St. Anthony
I thank one visitor, Margherita Giramma DaCosta who believes she has seen has seen an image of St Anthony of Lisbon (1195-1231) in one of the photographs on this site. This saint is known as the 'Miracle Worker' and is patron of the poor and oppressed.
